Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Valley of Roses / Tinghir

In the morning we leave Marrakech for the Erg Chebbi desert. We cross the impressive High Atlas mountains, making several stops along the way to take photos, enjoy the scenery, stretch our legs and have a coffee.

Our next stop is the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, with spectacular panoramic views. We then visit a traditional argan oil cooperative, where we learn how this prized product is made and can taste high-quality, handmade argan oil.

We continue our journey to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the highlight of this first day. This impressive ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most fascinating architectural ensembles in Morocco. You will have time to walk its narrow lanes and discover this historic fortified village, the setting for many film and TV productions such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia.

After lunch at one of the local restaurants we continue to Kelaa M'Gouna, known as the capital of the Valley of Roses and famous for its cooperatives and artisan rose-water distilleries.

At the end of the day we reach the Valley of Roses or Tinghir, where we spend the night in a hotel to rest before continuing the adventure the next day.

  2. Day 2

Valley of Roses / Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

After a delicious traditional breakfast we leave Tinghir for the Merzouga desert. Before continuing our route we visit the impressive Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon surrounded by towering rock walls up to 300 metres high, considered one of the most impressive natural landscapes in southern Morocco.

We then continue through Berber villages and pre-desert landscapes, passing through towns such as Tinjdad and Erfoud, known for its fossils and as the gateway to the Sahara. Along the way we stop for lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon we reach majestic Erg Chebbi, where the spectacular golden dunes of the desert await. There we swap the vehicle for traditional camels for an unforgettable ride while we watch the sun set over the dunes.

At the camp we are welcomed with Berber hospitality. After a delicious traditional dinner we spend the night in an authentic tent in the heart of the desert. Under a sky full of stars we enjoy a magical evening around the campfire, with traditional Berber music played on drums by the local guides, before resting in the heart of the Sahara.

  3. Day 3

Desert nomads – M’fis mines – Gnawa village of Khamlia – Night in a hotel

After sunrise in the desert and breakfast facing the Erg Chebbi dunes, we begin a fascinating day discovering the most authentic life of the Sahara.
Our first stop is to visit nomad families who live in traditional tents in the middle of the desert. We share tea with them and learn first-hand about their way of life, their customs and the hospitality that characterises the Berber people.
We continue to the old M’fis mines, historical remains from the colonial era set in a completely lunar landscape. From there we enjoy impressive views of the sea of dunes around Merzouga.
We reach the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa community, descendants of old sub-Saharan caravans. Here we enjoy a short concert of spiritual Gnawa music, with African rhythms that convey the energy and soul of the desert.
We return to Merzouga, to the hotel by the dunes, where we have dinner and spend the night (dinner and breakfast included).

  4. Day 4

    Merzouga – Return to Marrakech

After breakfast at the hotel in Merzouga we set off on the journey back to Marrakech.

Along the way we once again enjoy the landscapes of southern Morocco, with stops to rest and take photos, until we reach Marrakech at the end of the day, where our desert adventure ends.
